Whether you need to litigate for your fee or you are accused of breaching contractual duties—contract legal protection and fee legal expenses cover help you enforce your claims in court and cover lawyers’ and court fees, witness expenses and expert fees.

AIC offers you two solutions:

As an add-on to your ongoing professional indemnity insurance through AIC

  • Fee legal protection / contract legal protection applies to written construction contracts concluded with clients after the module is included. Unlike the legal protection package, this option does not cover disputes between planning participants.
  • Users of the AIC model contract service PlanerProSave© may receive a substantial discount on the legal protection module premium in certain cases.
  • Important for you: if your client withholds fees because of an alleged loss, some professional indemnity policies also provide legal protection. In practice, however, there is often no loss that would justify withholding or setting off against fee claims. If the client still does not pay, only contract and fee legal expenses cover helps if you want to pursue your fee in court.

As a separate legal protection package through AIC, independent of your professional indemnity:

  • Cover is provided (after a three-month waiting period) for judicial pursuit of legal interests arising from contractual obligations connected with your work as an architect or engineer.
  • Contract legal protection is taken out here as part of a company legal expenses insurance policy, so the overall package offers significantly broader legal protection.

Do you need a quick answer to your legal questions?

The legal expenses insurer’s telephone legal advice line does not refuse cover and there is no excess! Under the legal expenses cover arranged through AIC, you can use telephone legal advice on all your legal questions—whether insured, not insured or not insurable at all.

This service is available to you free of charge if you have chosen the add-on to professional indemnity or the separate legal protection package.
